The Call for Artists is now closed for our next all member exhibition which opens on August 25, 2021 at the Pajaro Valley Arts center gallery in Watsonville California. Please sign up now via this link to secure a place in the exhibit.

The title and theme of the upcoming exhibition is “Reflections” and we are encouraging artists to create up to 3 new narrative or story-telling works based on the theme of “Reflections”. Your submitted art must showcase metalwork in techniques of your choosing.

Entry fee: $35.00

You must be a current member of the Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild (MBMAG) to enter.

We are excited to announce that Pajaro Valley Arts will be hosting the exhibition in person and virtually. Visit the PVArts.org Virtual Tours page to see an example of a virtual show

As part of the exhibition, the Pajaro Valley Arts center gallery will also sell member’s art in their gift shop area. In our previous gallery exhibit and sale, many members had successful gallery gift shop sales.

“Reflections” Exhibition and Sale at Pajaro Valley Arts in Watsoniville California

All members are encouraged to participate. If this is your first time exhibiting and you have questions, send us an email and we will answer your questions. If you need to coordinate delivery and pickup of your artwork from outside Santa Cruz and Monterey, contact us to discuss. Note that MBMAG does not pay for shipping of artwork to or from the artist.

Artwork for Sale PVA staff will assist customers to the gallery using the information we supply during the artwork submission process. The gallery requires the following ratio of pieces that are For Sale and Not For Sale (NFS): If you enter 1 piece, it must be for sale. If you enter 2 pieces, at least one of those pieces must be for sale. If you enter 3 pieces, at least 2 pieces must be for sale and the third can be NFS.

Membership in PVA is optional, but encouraged. See: pvarts.org to join
For items that sell in the “gift shop” area of the gallery, PVA will take 30% if you are a member of PVA or 45% if you are a PVA non-member. Work should be priced accordingly.

Exhibition Plus Sale: The gift area was very successful the last time MBMAG had an exhibition and sale at Pajaro Valley Arts. Show participants may put up to 5 pieces total in the gallery gift shop area. Work must be priced at $200.00 or less. As items are sold you may replace them.

A Letter from the Exhibition Organizers

The title and theme of our all member exibit is “Reflections” to be interpreted as you wish.

Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild (MBMAG) has been invited to exhibit at the Pajaro Valley Arts (PVArts) in Watsonville, CA.

Although it is not required, we encourage you to submit narrative or story-telling work.

Reflections
1.  (of a surface or body) throw back (heat, light, or sound) without absorbing it.
2.  Think deeply or carefully about.

Common synonyms of reflect are: cogitate, deliberate, reason, speculate, and think. While all these words mean “to use one’s powers of conception, judgment, or inference,” reflect suggests unhurried consideration of something recalled to the mind.

Some ideas for your conception could be a collection that you have gathered such as feathers, shells, photos, et cetera. It could also be a scene or a place you have visited.

This has been a time of reflection for us all and we would like you to tell the viewer your story. An educational component is required by PVArts and to meet this requirement a short story of your concept will accompany the work.

We will accept up to three metal art pieces. Sculpture is encouraged.  Sculpture submissions will require dimensions be provided upon submission so we can accommodate your artwork with pedestals or cases.

Your artwork which is on exhibit must stay until the end of the exhibit, even if it sells during the exhibition. Pajaro Valley Arts will coordinate with the purchaser to receive any sold artwork that is in the exhibition.

As well as exhibiting three pieces you will be able to submit up to 5 metal art pieces for the Pajaro Valley Arts gallery gift shop.  These pieces can be replaced if they sell.

This promises to be an exciting exhibit and at long last, an opportunity to show your work.  Our last all member exhibition and sale at PVArts in 2017 was successful and well received.

I’ve signed up, what’s next?

When you know what pieces of art you are entering into the exhibition, fill out both online forms to submit your pieces. Yes, online forms are new this year! The online forms save you work of having to fill out, print, scan, and email because the forms automatically email the exhibition team your submissions. Note that both forms are required.

Links to the form pages are below. The two pages include instructions, examples of the Labels and Records Form as a downloadable / viewable PDF, and a PDF version of the PVA Loan Agreement for you to view before you fill out that form online.

The forms are due by 7/2/21 if you wish your images to be considered for inclusion on the postcard. The final due date for all forms from all participating artists is 7/12/21
