Third Friday Speaker Series: Metal Clay Demo with Pat Evans

dragon fly brooch of fine silver with sapphires by Pat Evans

Friday, February 15, 2018 7 – 9pm

Free and open to the public

Have you been curious about metal clay? Do you think it’s just for hobbyists? Or have you never even heard of it? This product, a combination of recycled silver and organic binders, can be worked like clay and, when fired, is (depending on the variety) pure fine silver, sterling silver, copper, bronze or even steel. Pat Evans, Senior Art Clay Instructor, will demonstrate the basics of working with several varieties of metal clay, and explain how it can be a useful addition to your jewelry-making toolkit.

3:30 LYNDA WATSON’S PRESENTATION on her TRIP to CHINA

Featured Artist Lynda Watson will give a talk and slide presentation on her recent trip to China.   It was an amazing experience and you will enjoy seeing metal art.

“After a trip to Southeastern China in 2008, Mary Hu was invited by the Chinese government to bring 10 professional metalsmiths/jewelers to China for the purpose of observing, advising, and showing work to students and faculty at Chinese University metals programs.

We were also there to study Maio jewelry and costume in its original, indigenous form and as it was being produced for export as tourist goods. I will show images of the artisans making both fine silver and nickel silver traditional jewelry as well as photos of museum pieces and where the Miao live and work.”  -Lynda

DON’T MISS A SINGLE MOMENT!
