Join us in a once in a lifetime workshop opportunity while Betty Helen is here on a very rare West Coast visit to the Monterey Bay area. Learn from the master herself in a small intimate atmosphere.

Betty Helen will be able to give each student individual attention and guidance as she teaches how to use the shell forming techniques of synclasting and anticlasting as well as ways to make transitions from one form to the other. You will gain new insight into ways to manipulate sheet metal into a unique group of jewelry items.

Betty Helen Longhi is a nationally recognized metalsmith who creates finely crafted jewelry and sculpture. She attended the University of Wisconsin and Cranbrook Academy of Art and has studied with Heikki Seppa and Michael Good. Ms. Longhi has given numerous workshops both in the United States and Canada including Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Parsons School of Design, Arrowmont, Peters Valley Craft Center and Penland School. A master craftsperson, Ms. Longhi incorporates various texturing techniques with forging, shell forming and die forming in her pieces. Her work is recognized for it’s sculptural quality and flowing lines.

at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, August 18th and 19th, 2012

The Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild (MBMAG), in collaboration with the Cabrillo College Seahawk Metal Arts Club (SMAC) is participating in a two-day celebration of all things metal at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History on Saturday, August 18th and Sunday, August 19th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

For two days the patios and the classroom of the museum will be a flurry of activity as we present three workshops: Make-A-Bracelet, Crazy Metal Quilt and tufa casting, and two demonstrations: fold forming by Dawn Nakanishi and metal forging by Paul Chaney. Call for Artists – Made with Love 2012

Call for artists to exhibit in a gallery show

Made With Love

at Many Hands Gallery in Capitola, CA

for the entire month of February 2012

For the second year, Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild (MBMAG) is excited to present a gallery exhibition opportunity at Many Hands Gallery in Capitola this February 2012. This is a local high quality gallery, a great chance for our members to exhibit and market their work in a gallery setting.

All pieces submitted to this show must be for sale and priced with commissions to the gallery in mind. The theme is Made with Love and may be interpreted as you wish.

We are looking for high quality, predominately metal jewelry and small sculpture (maximum of 3’ high). One to two pieces may be entered into this show. The entry fee is $20.00. All entrants must be 2012 members of MBMAG ($35 per year).

The MBMAG co-chairs are Dorie Green and Toni Danzig.
