Workshops
Visiting artists and our talented artist members teach local workshops in person and remotely. The one to five day workshops cover a wide variety of metal art techniques ranging from beginning metalsmithing to 3D sculptural techniques to advanced jewelry making. Many of the techniques taught cross the boundaries between sculpture and jewelry making and our artists innovate and adapt the techniques to their own unique styles and artwork.
Upcoming locally taught or online Monterey Bay Metal Arts Workshops are listed here first. We also list member taught workshops which are hosted at other sites. If no upcoming workshops are listed, check back later or join the email list using the field at the bottom of this page for early notification.
Members have first dibs at filling guild sponsored workshop seats and pay less than non-members for the workshops.
Free seminars for members are available to watch later via this website.
Previously held workshops taught with visiting artists and artist members of the Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild are listed below for your reference

MBMAG Monthly Speaker Series: Don’t Miss it!
Paul Kmetko
New Tools for Stenciling on Enamel
Friday 7 – 9 pm, March 18, 2018

Stencils are commonly used in enameling and they can be tricky to manipulate. Nothing is worse than carefully applying powder to your design and jostling the stencil whilst trying to remove it… Not only does it waste precious material, it can be very frustrating. In addition just laying a stencil down on top of the work doesn’t guarantee a snug fit and powder will creep under boundary zones. In order to solve the problem Paul went back to his roots in screen printing and devised a solution that solves both problems at once. It started as a low tech device with a easily available clamp fixture that can be modified with minimal effort by almost anybody.
Paul will share this device and how to make a low-tech version of it, as well as giving tips on stenciling on enamel at this month’s MBMAG Speaker Series.
